You can't lose more than 5% (Classic/Pro) or 3% (One Phase/Instant) of your balance in a single trading day. It is balance-based and resets at 5:00 PM EST.
The gotcha
The reset is 5:00 PM EST — NOT your local midnight and not your broker's server midnight. Traders blow accounts by treating two sessions on either side of 5 PM EST as 'two days' when the firm counts them as one, or vice-versa. Know exactly when your day rolls over.
What happens if you break it
Breaching this voids the account outright — the evaluation or funded account is terminated and any unrealised profit is forfeited. It's the most severe class of breach.
